How a Personalised Candle Is Made

A personalised candle is the difference between buying something off the shelf and giving something made for a particular person. Colour, scent and the note that comes with it - together they produce a piece made for one person only. It works across weddings, corporate gifts, birthdays and housewarmings alike.

Here is how a personalised candle is made, what you can choose, and what to watch for when you order.

How a Personalised Candle Is Made

1. The vessel is chosen. Concrete, ceramic or glass. Concrete gives the gift permanence, since the vessel becomes a planter or pen pot afterwards.
2. The colour is set. Pigment is blended into the wax. Because each piece is hand-poured there is slight tonal variation between batches - a natural result of handmade work.
3. The wick is fixed. A wooden or cotton wick, sized to the vessel, is centred and anchored at the base.
4. Fragrance is added. Soy wax is melted to 60-70 degrees, taken off the heat, and natural fragrance is stirred in. Added too hot, the fragrance burns off.
5. It is poured and cured. The wax is poured slowly and left for 24 hours at room temperature so the surface sets evenly.
6. Note and packaging. Your personal note goes into the box.

What to Watch For

1. Leave time. Made-to-order takes around 3-4 working days; for dated events like weddings, plan at least two weeks ahead.
2. Think about intensity. For bulk orders, neutral scents that suit everyone are the safer call.
3. Keep colour expectations realistic. A screen colour and a hand-poured candle will not match exactly.
4. Confirm quantities. Adding to a bulk order later means a new production batch.

The Journey of a Personalised Order in the Studio

From the moment a personalised candle request reaches us, it goes through a few distinct stages. First we pin down the scent, colour, mould or vessel, and what name or date should appear on the label. At the Seferihisar studio, each order is then prepared individually rather than on a mass production line.

The production steps roughly go like this.

1. We melt the soy wax at around 70-80 degrees Celsius until it's fully liquid.
2. We let it cool slightly and add the fragrance oil at around 60-65 degrees, since higher temperatures can make the scent fade over time.
3. Colour pigments go in at this stage too, and we mix until the colour is evenly distributed.
4. We pour the wax into the vessel or mould and centre and secure the wick.
5. We let the candle cool and fully set, then it goes through a curing period, usually 7-14 days for soy wax.

Curing isn't a step we rush. During this time the fragrance oil settles into the wax structure and the burn performance matures. A candle shipped before curing may not give the expected scent throw on first burn, so we don't skip this step.

How the Process Changes for Corporate and Bulk Orders

Weddings, wedding favours, hotel and cafe gifts, or corporate holiday sets involve a slightly different process than a single order. As quantity increases, colour and scent consistency becomes our main focus, so we weigh out pigment and fragrance oil by batch rather than eyeballing it. Matching a candle's colour to a brand's palette is also a common request.

For bulk orders, we generally proceed as follows.

1. We prepare a small sample first, and colour, scent, and label design are approved based on that sample.
2. Once the sample is approved, we move to the main production run, with the whole batch poured from the same recipe.
3. We note the batch number and production date so consistency can be tracked within the same order.
4. Once curing is complete, we move on to labelling and packaging.

Lead time naturally grows with quantity; curing time stays the same, but pouring, labelling, and packaging all take longer as numbers rise. That's why we recommend a minimum quantity for bulk orders along with a longer delivery window. For weddings or events with a fixed date, discussing this upfront helps things move smoothly.

Label and Packaging Design

The most requested personalisation on labels is a name, a date, and a short message. Because label space is limited, font size and readability need to stay in balance. Fitting a long message onto a small label usually means the text gets too small to read or the layout loses its balance, so we keep text within a certain character limit and work with the customer to shorten it when needed.

There are a few things we check when preparing a label.

1. Turkish characters: we confirm before printing that the font we're using displays letters like ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü correctly.
2. Spelling check: we confirm the name, date, and message text with the customer once more before it goes to print.
3. Readability: we make sure the font size stays proportional to the surface of the vessel or mould.

On the packaging side, we offer a few options depending on how the candle will be used: a plain box, a gift box, or individually labelled packaging for bulk orders. For courier shipments, we also secure the vessel inside the box so it doesn't shift in transit.

Managing Expectations with a Personalised Product

Because of the nature of handmade production, small variations can occur, and it's worth talking about them upfront. Colour tone can shift slightly from batch to batch depending on the pigment batch and pouring temperature; the same recipe may not produce an identical shade twice. The surface pattern known as frosting, which appears on soy wax, isn't a flaw either — it's a characteristic feature that can develop over time with temperature changes. Concrete vessels can also show slight texture and porosity differences from piece to piece, simply because of how each one is cast.

These aren't defects — they're part of working with handmade, natural materials. A genuine issue is usually something like an off-centre wick, large surface pits, a fragrance that's barely noticeable, or wrong information on the label; if that happens, we want to hear from you.

To keep the process moving quickly, it helps if a few details are settled before ordering: quantity, delivery date, the label text, and a colour reference if you have one. Sharing an image tends to give a clearer result than describing a colour in words. If you have a fixed delivery date, we generally recommend ordering at least a few weeks ahead once curing time and shipping are factored in, and that margin matters even more for bulk orders.
